Kenny Shanker’s saxophone shines bright on his new release, titled Action City (Posi-Tone 2014). This award-winning composer penned all twelve tunes on the record, which features emphatic playing by some great New York-area musicians, including ones heard on his first record, Steppin’ Up (Posi-Tone 2011).

Shanker grew up in Pleasanton, California, and started playing the saxophone when he was ten years old. By the time he was fourteen, he was playing professional gigs in the local clubs and at parties.
