“He doesn’t sound like anybody else, and it’s obvious to me that he has a great control of the guitar”

— John Abercrombie

Dave Juarez is a native of Barcelona, Spain. At the age of nine, Juarez began to study guitar and solfège under the guidance of Xavi Vilaro. At fourteen, he discovered jazz and was a student at the “Taller de Musics” in Barcelona with Oscar Peñas. After mentoring by Josep Albert Cubero (J. M. Serrat, Shirley Bassey, John Abercrombie), Juarez attended the Conservatory of Amsterdam where he studied with Jesse van Ruller, Maarten van der Grinten, Martien Oster and Martijn van Iterson. A highlight was when one of Juarez’s bands was a finalist at the “Uitmarkt Jazz Competition 2009.” After moving to New York, Juarez performed at many of the city’s famous jazz clubs, worked with many great artists, and studied at SUNY Purchase with John Abercrombie.
