Bassist Ben Wolfe is releasing his sixth record as a bandleader, titled “The Whisperer” (Posi-Tone, 2015). This quartet date features front line performances by saxophonist Stacy Dillard and pianist Orrin Evans moving freely over the solid harmonic foundation of bassist Wolfe and the explosive metrics of drummer Donald Edwards. Wolfe’s work is a true ensemble expressed in the group sound, rather than dominated by extended solo compositions.
